AVX Donates $25,000 To Help Fund The Rebuilding Of Huntington Beach State Park’s Nature Center

AVX has been supporting the park since the original nature center was built in 2002. This latest donation will help fund the rebuilding of the original center, which was destroyed by a lightning fire in 2016, & will now be reopened to the public in 2019.

FOUNTAIN INN, S.C. (May 9, 2018) – AVX Corporation, a leading manufacturer and supplier of advanced electronic components and interconnect, sensor, control, and antenna solutions, donated $25,000 to South Carolina’s Huntington Beach State Park to help fund the rebuilding of its popular educational nature center, which hosted more than 4,000 local students a year before it was destroyed by a lightning fire in 2016. AVX also supported the original nature center, donating $25,000 for exhibits in advance of its opening in 2002.

The nature center has been a treasured attraction at Huntington Beach, offering visitors the opportunity to interact with exhibits that highlight the delicate and substantive ecosystem of the South Carolina coast, which includes saltwater, freshwater, and maritime forest habitats that support a variety of wildlife. When operational, the center also serves as a hub for the South Carolina State Park Service’s Discover Carolina Program, a set of curriculum-based field studies and lesson plans that help teachers provide students with hands-on learning experiences. Construction of the new nature center is slated to begin this summer, and it is expected to open to the public in 2019.

“AVX has been a friend of Huntington Beach State Park for many years, and will continue to support their efforts to educate visitors about South Carolina’s ecosystem,” said Karen Smith, AVX Foundation. “AVX values its relationships with local communities and makes a concerted effort to be a good corporate citizen by earning the trust and respect of our neighbors.”

“We are very grateful to AVX for their generous contribution toward environmental education at Huntington Beach State Park,” said Phil Gaines, director of the South Carolina State Park Service. “Their donation helps us get closer to opening the center, and to meeting our goals of stewardship of these natural communities and service to the people who visit.”
