Quality Engineer I

Job Description:
AVX Antenna, Inc. is seeking a highly motivated and skilled engineering professional with a proven track record of providing excellent service in a fast paced and dynamic work environment. The Quality Engineer will perform specialized assignments of an engineering nature associated with the design and development phase of programs for which they have delegated Quality Assurance (QA) responsibility, implementing QA in compliance with the Quality System and Standards. Conduct investigative work to solve and resolve quality-related problems and contractual obligations. Develop and initiate new methods and procedures for inspection and test evaluation.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Develop and establish Quality Procedures, Inspection Plans, and Quality Systems for products including higher quality standard products such as the Automotive, Aerospace, and Military projects.
  • Use critical thinking to determine potential risks for product used under various customer applications such as Automotive, Aerospace, and Military applications.
  • Review product and supplier quality trends, statistical plan price estimates and technical quality proposal plans and ensure process control documents adhere with set requirements.
  • Ensure on time processing of non-conforming components and assign RMA# and process returned parts for Failure Analysis.
  • Assist suppliers with the disposition process of Non-Conforming material or quality issues by involvement in the failure analysis process and Material Review Board
  • Display aptitude for continuous improvement in all aspects of the position including analysis of design tools, the design process, and other improvements leading to the highest efficiency, best engineering results, and highest customer satisfaction.
  • Evaluate suppliers KPI performance using Supplier Scorecard and manage the supplier’s Scrap Rates, On Time Delivery, Customer Complaints, and Corrective Actions using Supplier Scorecard and managing the supplier’s improvement plans.
  • Verify product conformance from IQC, IPQC, FQC, OQC, FAI, and Cpk, and PPAP reports and confirming the effectiveness of the quality system through supplier audits and surveys.
  • Interact with product development teams to review and approve engineering releases. Review all product quality control aspects such as quality planning, manufacturing methods and process specifications for various quality standards including higher level requirements for Automotive, Aerospace, and Military projects.
  • Interact with manufacturing and engineering teams to Define and Coordinate the proper Reliability (Mechanical and Climatic) Test Plans using International Recognized Test Standards and maintain the records of the Test Results documentation related to the Product Qualifications for all projects including the Automotive, Aerospace, and Military projects.
  • Interact with all factory’s Quality Control teams to create the proper Quality Inspections Techniques for Automotive, Aerospace, and Military projects. Review and approve the PPAP Reports generated by the factories for the Automotive customers.
  • Prepare organization for ISO9001, ISO14001, and IATF 16949 for Internal and third-party Audits.
  • Manage and respond to all product environmental compliance requests for the latest RoHS, REACH, CMRT, and other Social and Environmental Compliance regulations.
Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior Quality and/or Manufacturing experience within the electronics industry or 2 years post-Secondary/ Associates Degree and a minimum of 6 years of prior related experience. Graduate Degree or equivalent with 0 to 2 years of prior related experience or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience in Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA) activities.
  • Experience in electronics manufacturing.
  • Solid general background in electronics, inspection, soldering and workmanship J-STD-001 and Inspection Standard IPC-A-610, Control Plan, Work Instruction assembly practices.
  • Knowledge of blueprint interpretation, test procedures and equipment, material review functions (failure cause identification and corrective action), contract review and interpretation, and configuration control.
  • Ability to prepare Failure Analysis Reports (FAR), Reliability Test Reports, PPAP reports, and Environmental Compliance Reports and lead Material Review Board (MRB) meetings.
  • Knowledge of blueprint interpretation, test procedures and equipment, material review functions (failure cause identification and corrective action), contract review and interpretation, and configuration control.
  • Proficient in application and understanding of the Quality Standards as they apply to the ISO 9001, ISO14001, IATF 16949 Quality System and the MIL specifications.
  • Intermediate to advanced level of proficiency with a PC and the Microsoft Office Suite of products, including Excel, Word, and Power Point.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and report-writing skills.
  • Excellent listening, observation, and comprehension skills and able to articulate judgments made in verbal and written form in a professional manner.
  • Trained in the development, creation, and usage of metrics.
  • Trained in Six Sigma and Lean techniques.
