Provide Engineering support and technical leadership on new product development and ongoing production processing with respect to tooling and injection molding technologies as well as process development and improvements. This includes the designing of tool dies and molds to facilitate efficient processing in addition to meeting customer requirements. Cost being a key driver of the business, the Global Tooling Manager will be responsible to ensure new product development and ongoing production, as related to tooling and injection molding technologies, meet the cost, quality and throughput goals as outlined in the project feasibility and operational targets. The Global Tooling Manager will also engage in solving stamping, tooling and molding-related issues; and to ensure best practices are being implemented, standardized and used across all facilities, to achieve the cost, quality, and production goals. This position will also participate actively in continuous improvements efforts to pursue cost reductions in new product development and current production processing.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Support the quoting of new projects by providing cost-effective solutions for tooling and injection molding tools and processing.
Ensure that cost projections on new projects are achieved.
Work with the InterConnect Engineering team to lead die and mold tools design reviews and complete tool refinement during development and validation.
Participate in new die and mold tools, and new equipment run-offs prior to transferring to InterConnect manufacturing facilities.
Continuously assess the market for new systems and technologies and ensure integration into the AVX system as applicable.
Monitor molding operation yields and material usage metrics.
Lead initiatives to reduce tooling and molding processing costs on ongoing operations, as well as to increase productivity of tooling and molding technicians.
Monitor and analyze molding process variability by implementing effective SPC programs.
Manage and maintain a lessons-learned program for die and injection molding tools across AVX InterConnect facilities.
Liaison with AVX facilities in other regions on new technologies being introduced in order to facilitate their introduction in North America.
Provide technical assistance to all AVX InterConnect facilities as required.
BS Degree in an Engineering Discipline required.
Minimum 5 years of experience in die and mold tooling design.
Proficient in solid 3D modeling software (Solidworks, ProE, AutoCAD) required for evaluation and analysis of tool and product designs.
Must have experience in tooling design, fabrication, development, sampling and validation of die and mold tools.
Proven knowledge of best machining practices, for new tooling construction and repairs.
Knowledge of tool steel types, surface treatments and finishes used in die and mold tooling.
Proven experience with GF, PBT and nylon-engineered resins.
Experience and knowledge with microcellular plastic foams
Able to interpret mold flow analyses.
Knowledge of injection molding process monitoring and control systems.
Excellent prioritization and organization skills to manage multiple responsibilities under limited supervision.
Ability to work in a fast-pace environment and under pressure, to “get the job done”.
Proven knowledge of GD&T and ability to interpret and analyze complex 3D scans and 2D dimensional reports.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite products.
Knowledge of AIAG Core Tools and TS-16949 is a strong plus.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Willingness to travel, including international, up to 30% of the time.
