AVX Glass Encapsulated TransGuard® Series Multilayer Varistors provide highly reliable, AEC-Q200 qualified SMT components for bi-directional overvoltage protection with the advantage of EMI/RFI attenuation in the off-state for automotive applications. Glass Encapsulated TransGuard® Automotive Series are zinc oxide (ZnO) based ceramic semiconductor devices with non-linear voltage-current characteristics (bi-directional) similar to back-to-back zener diodes. They have the added advantage of greater current and energy handling capabilities, very fast turn-on time, multiple strikes capabilities as well as EMI/RFI attenuation in the off-state. Glass Encapsulated Varistors extend TransGuard® range into high energy applications. In addition the glass encapsulation provides enhanced resistance against harsh environment or process such as acidic environment, salts or chlorite flux.

Available in case sizes from 1206 to 3220, working voltage from 16 to 85Vdc, energy rating up to 1J, peak current rating up to 2000A and load dump rating up to 50J. Operating temperature range is -55°C to +125°C with no derating. Parts offer excellent lead free solderability thanks to Ni Barrier/100% Sn termination.
