Plating Engineer

Location: Greenville, SC, US
Job Description:
The Electroplating engineer will be responsible for plating various metals, (Sn, Ag, Ni, Cu) on electronic passive components. The engineer will utilize their knowledge of chemistry, materials and manufacturing as related to the plating process.

Group Manager - Materials
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Plan details of assigned project, including methods and scope of work under the functional guidance of senior personnel where some detailed outline of procedures and desired results are given.
  • Coordinates design and development of projects with related activities to ensure compatibility of design and adherence to specifications.
  • Establishes and conducts test, analyzes and interprets test results and prepares reports summarizing methods employed and results obtained in the solution of the assigned project.
  • Provides technical support to technicians and production personnel in response to production issues or during preventative maintenance utilizing excellent interpersonal skills
  • Analyzes manufacturing process capabilities of new products to identify potential production processing
  • Maintains plating batch composition, temperature and concentration using various analytical techniques.
  • Develop new or improved processes as necessary to support manufacturing
  • Develop new formulations through hands-on experiments to meet plating specifications
  • Have experience working with hazardous chemicals and acids, maintaining compliance with environmental regulations
  • Work with suppliers on new equipment and materials to support the plating operation.
Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Engineering or Chemistry (Chemical or Materials or similar preferred) Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Extensive knowledge of various types of materials and plating processes used in the electronic industry: electroplating, electro-less plating, surface treatment, knowledge of Ni, Sn, Sn/Pb, Cu and Au plating chemistries and analysis.
  • Understand process controls required for plating bath maintenance and chemical analysis techniques.
  • Minimum of 3 years of product development, quality assurance, or direct manufacturing experience in plating process.
  • Work experience at a plating chemistry supplier is desired. Including plating chemistry formulation development, plating technical service and applications support.
