Machine Shop Supervisor

Job Description:
Reports to the Facility Manager and provides supervisory and administrative support to the machine shop staff. Uses knowledge of established machine shop practices and procedures to ensure completion and accuracy of work being performed. Provides support to the plant's manufacturing effort by coordinating the fabrication and repair of facility machinery and equipment. In addition, supports other sites as needed with same. Work is performed within established guidelines and may be accomplished independently or under the general supervision of the Facility Manager.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assigns, schedules, and prioritizes work requests for the Greenville site and AVX sister sites.
  • Trains, evaluates, motivates, and disciplines the machine shop staff to ensure operating competency and consistently acceptable productivity and quality.
  • Maintains quantity, source, and cost information regarding materials used for part fabrication. Includes listing domestic suppliers of international parts and locating acceptable domestic substitutes for international parts as needed both for financial and delivery purposes. Maintains accurate inventories for accounting purposes.
  • Acts as contact person for outside vendors. Determines feasibility, necessity, and need for follow up when interacting with outside personnel.
  • Assists with engineering projects or changes to facilities and production equipment.
  • Ensures adherence to and enforces Company policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Encourages and enforces plant safety and health programs and practices, contributing to minimal worker lost time and employee physical well being; ensures good housekeeping.
  • Prepares and submits reports as directed on a timely basis.
  • Assists in documentation and record keeping for chemical raw material usage, waste stream tracking, and daily scrap and waste management.
  • Shares responsibility for department's purchase orders, requisitions, time cards, and any other paperwork needed to coordinate the scheduling and completion of necessary work.
  • Actively pursues cost control measures to ensure the efficient use of materials, supplies, and human resources.
  • Attends training and development programs as directed by the Company.13.       May, as needed, perform “hands on” work with technicians or as part of supervision.
  •  Performs other duties as may be assigned.
Job Requirements:
  • Associates Degree in Machine Tool Technology.
  • Ten or more years of machine shop experience with at least four in a supervisory role.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of time and occasionally flex the work schedule as necessary to oversee project work or engage various work shifts, or to respond to emergency orders.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish effective workplace relationships and motivate employees to meet department objectives.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with ability to communicate effectively within the organization.
  • Technical writing including development of technical documents, procedures, hazard/job analyses, and training presentations.
  • Intermediate level of knowledge using standard Microsoft desktop applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, & Outlook).
