Electronic Technician

Job Description:
Under general supervision, ensures the effective operation and maintenance of the factory automation systems and other electronic equipment. Instructions may be oral or written, and in accordance with industry practice, performs skilled electronics work in the installation, alteration, maintenance, calibration, testing and repair of electronic systems, equipment, and fixtures. Considerable latitude is allowed in determining methods of work procedures. Work is performed independently or under the general supervision of the Facility Manager and is reviewed through inspection of work in progress and upon completion.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Reads and interprets schematics, user manuals, software programs, and ladder diagrams to determine component location and configuration.
  2. Ensures that equipment components are operating properly and that malfunctions are identified and repaired which include troubleshooting, calibration, adjustment, or replacement of both hardware and software components.
  3. Determines source of complex electrical or electronic problems; troubleshoots and repairs all types of electronic equipment using testing devices and tools.
  4. Understands automation communication protocols and how components exchange or store information.
  5. Understands how to resolve both logic and electrical malfunctions using the same skills, understands operation, interaction, and communication of plant machine and equipment operating systems and sub systems.
  6. Installs new or replacement/substitute parts or software in automated equipment or fixtures and makes adjustments, changes or modifications as necessary.
  7. Responsible for acquiring knowledge of error origination and resolution including how each piece of the equipment functions, both independently and in relation to other components in a process.
  8. Knowledge of engineering practice to design, fabricate or modify automated process equipment or fixtures which includes understanding operating criteria, component specification, selection and installation along with startup and debugging.7.         Utilizes hand and small power tools to perform wiring and repair of electrical or electronic equipment, as well as general maintenance duties.8.         Operates various company vehicles such as automobiles, fork-lifts, etc., for which licenses must be maintained.9.         Performs other related duties as assigned by supervisor.

Job Requirements:
  • Proven ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics, and understand shop mathematics and electronic principles at a level normally acquired in two years of technical training beyond high school.
  • Oral and written expression skills sufficient to receive and respond to verbal instructions, maintain production and equipment maintenance documentation.
  • Five to seven years’ experience in electronics or industrial automation required to understand industrial automated systems, machinery, and equipment, as well as remaining fluent in technology advances and methodologies.
  • Approximately one year's experience is needed to understand AVX facility and production equipment.
  • Interpersonal skills necessary in order to communicate effectively with supervisor, operators, and equipment repair personnel in order to describe procedures, operating parameters, and machine malfunctions.Visual acuity and the ability to concentrate and pay close attention to details for moderate periods of time when operating equipment, testing parts, and maintaining records.
